Teachers need help in the transgender debate

Which toilet should a trans pupil be allowed to use? Teachers like me have enough on our plates with the day job, but we must also face questions like this. Whatever our answer, we are bound to annoy someone. Yet for too long, ministers have shied away from offering a helping hand in this toxic debate. Unfortunately, it looks as though Liz Truss’s government is going to continue that unhelpful approach.

Suella Braverman is right: schools shouldn’t pander to trans pupils

For saying that teachers shouldn’t pander to trans pupils, Suella Braverman has found herself in hot water. The Attorney General suggested in an interview with the Times that male pupils should not be able to use girls’ toilets, and that single-sex schools can indeed restrict admission to children of just one sex. These are hardly revolutionary ideas, but they appear to have upset the National Education Union.

Sense in Parliament at Last on GRA Reform?

Last night’s* Westminster Hall debate on GRA reform ended the tactics of no debate on transgender rights. At times it was passionate; Miriam Cates was interrupted eight times in ten minutes as she argued the case for women, children, and science.
